Welcome to Unstable Magix – where midlife magic, misfires, and manifesting (eventually) collide with a whole log of sarcasm and spiritual chaos.

I’m Everlie Blackthorn, your resident clumsy witch and metaphysical misfit, figuring out this whole “spiritual journey” thing one magical disaster at a time. I opened Backcountry Mystic – a cozy little shop nestled in the heart of BriarVeil, Ontario – because, well, I needed a way to make sense of this strange, chaotic world we live in. I had no idea what I was doing, but I was pretty sure it was gonna be weird, and it turned out, I was right.

I left my lucrative, soul-crushing church job after realizing that the whole “fire and brimstone” routine wasn’t the vibe I was looking for (plus, they didn’t exactly handle grief or gender equality very well). After some serious soul-searching (and several awkwardly timed existential crises), I packed up my family and moved to BriarVeil, seeking something more grounded and … authentic. I dove into Celtic spiritual practices, learned to listen to the land, and now I’m on a quest to untangle the mysteries of the universe. And trust me, there are a lot of mysteries here.

In my little shop, you’ll find everything from handmade medicine bags to tarot readings, astrology readings, and more. And yes, there’s a café (because what’s a spiritual awakening without a latte and treats?). You’ll probably bump into my mischievous husband, our high-spirited sons , and an eccentric cast of locals – some with questionable motives and all with their own set of quirks.

And that’s just the beginning. There’s also Unstable Magix, this blog where I share my chaotic spiritual journey with a side of sarcasm and a heaping dose of the ridiculous. Between the tarot cards, the mess, and the occasional supernatural mishap, you’ll find that I don’t take myself too seriously – because honestly, who has time for that?

The world’s a strange place, and I’m learning how to navigate it one aesthetically-challenged spell at a time. If you’re into snarky astrology, brutally honest tarot readings, and finding a little magic in the mess of it all, then you’re in the right place.
